What you can change in the Dota 2 client and what you cannot
The game hands over very little of its look: language, minimap size, a few checkboxes in the options and HUD skins that unlock with Dota Plus. The main menu background, the clutter in the interface, the panels you see in a match — none of that is adjustable.
Better UI works as a layer on top of the client: it does not replace game files, it hides and redraws interface elements according to your settings. Hence the four sections in the module menu — profile, post-match screen, main menu and the in-game HUD.
Profile, showcase and match history
- Copy the ID with a click. Sending your number to a friend no longer means selecting digits by hand. The September 15 update also fixed copying a friend's ID — a spoofed one used to be copied instead.
- Unlock invites. The group invite button works even when you are not the party leader and the player is not on your friend list.
- Stats site buttons. Every profile gets shortcuts to Dotabuff, Stratz and OpenDota — no manual search by ID.
- Showcase: hide 18 element types. Saves you from spam and from plainly unpleasant images in other people's profiles.
- Showcase: rotate objects. The angle of any widget can be changed, so the profile stops looking stock.
- Match history. The Dota Plus banner goes away, match numbering can be turned on and the old rating-change display comes back.
The post-match screen
The second section reworks the window that opens after a game. The idea is simple: reviewing a match should not require a trip to the browser.
- Dotabuff, Stratz and OpenDota buttons appear inside the match, so full statistics is one click away.
- The rating change is shown on the post-match screen itself instead of only in the profile.
- First blood time is printed in the summary.
- Players who left are marked, so you can see who disconnected and when the game stopped being fair.
The in-game HUD: 14 options
Inside a match every panel and every on-screen element is adjustable — fourteen options that add up to your own HUD: what stays visible, what goes, what moves. It is not about looks: a support and a midlaner find different things useless, and the less you have on screen that you never read, the faster you find what you do.
Settings live in the cloud config, so they travel with your account to another computer. Ready-made sets are in the config section.
How to set up Better UI
- Launch Umbrella (pick a plan and download the loader).
- Open the Better UI section in the menu and enable the module.
- Walk through the four subsections: profile, match info, main menu, in game.
- For a custom background paste a link to an image or a video and tune the filters.
- Build the in-game HUD — keep only what you actually read on screen.
- Save the config to the cloud so you never rebuild it from scratch.
Is it safe
Better UI only changes what you see: game files are not replaced and the settings affect neither the gameplay nor other players. The general risk of third-party software does not disappear, though — it is reduced by the spoofer and cloud config storage, so settings are never written to disk. A detailed breakdown is in "Is cheating bannable in Dota 2".
FAQ
Can you set your own video as the Dota 2 menu background?
Yes. The background is set by a link to an image or a video, with nothing downloaded to your computer. Once applied it is edited with filters: blur, brightness, contrast, saturation, hue and a colour filter.
How do you copy your Dota ID?
In Better UI the ID is copied with a click, no need to select digits. The September 15, 2026 update also fixed copying a friend's ID — a spoofed one used to be copied instead.
Can the Dota Plus banner be removed from match history?
Yes, it is a separate option in the History section. The same place turns on match numbering and brings back the old rating-change display.
How many in-game interface options are there?
Fourteen. Every panel and every element present on screen during a match is adjustable, and the set is saved to the cloud config.
Can you get banned for customising the interface?
There is risk with any third-party software and Better UI is no exception, even though it does not touch the gameplay itself. Umbrella reduces the chance of detection with the spoofer and cloud configs. We do not promise full protection.
