How to Set Up Combo Builder for Your Hero

The chain builder in Umbrella binds up to 12 steps to a single key. Pick Invoker — fire EMP-Tornado-Meteor in one click. Pick Storm Spirit — chain BKB-ETH-Remnant-Ult. Below we walk through setup from scratch and ready presets for popular heroes.

Step 1. Open the builder

  1. Launch Umbrella Loader → log in → activate a session.
  2. In Dota 2 press INS — the cheat menu opens.
  3. Go to the Combo Builder section.
  4. In the left panel — the hero list. Select yours.

Step 2. Load a ready preset

For the top-30 heroes there are factory presets with verified chains:

  • Invoker — Auto Cataclysm, EMP-Tornado-Meteor, Cold Snap chain.
  • Tinker — Rearm cycle, Defense Matrix toggle, Travel-Cast-Travel.
  • Storm Spirit — BKB-ETH-Remnant-Ult, Mana Manage.
  • Pudge — Hook prediction, Dismember low-HP.
  • Lina — LSA-Stun-Ult full chain.

The "Load Preset" button next to the hero's name applies the factory build. Timings are already tuned for the current patch.

Step 3. Build a chain from scratch

If you need a custom build:

  1. The + New Combo button creates an empty sequence.
  2. Drag an ability from the left panel to the centre (drag and drop).
  3. Each step = a new ability or active item (BKB, Blink, Manta, Eul).
  4. The order of steps is set by dragging — the top one fires first.
  5. Up to 12 steps per chain are allowed.

Example for Magnus: Skewer → Reverse Polarity → auto-attack → Empower on an ally — 4 steps, executed in one click.

Step 4. Step timings

Each step has a configurable delay — the wait before casting:

  • 0 ms — instant cast (for passive toggles).
  • 100–200 ms — natural delay (mimics human reaction).
  • 500–1000 ms — for chains with a cast point (Sun Strike, Avalanche).
  • Custom — an exact delay in milliseconds.

Rule: do not set zero delay on every step in a row — anti-cheat can spot a machine pattern. Better to add a jitter of ±20 ms per step.

Step 5. Activation conditions

Each step can have a condition attached:

  • HP self < X% — for example, BKB only casts when your HP is below 60%.
  • HP target < X% — finish ult only on a low-HP enemy.
  • Enemy in radius — cast only if an enemy is in the ability's range.
  • Mana > X — skip the step if there is not enough mana.
  • Item ready — cast only if the item is off cooldown.

Conditions can be combined via AND/OR. This gives smart automation: the chain adapts to the context of a fight.

Step 6. Assign a trigger key

At the bottom of the sequence — the Trigger Key field:

  • Mouse4 / Mouse5 — recommended for the main combo. Thumb on the mouse side buttons.
  • Numpad (1–9) — for secondary chains.
  • Modifier + key — Ctrl/Shift/Alt + any key. Convenient for supports with many chains.

One hero can have up to 16 chains on different triggers. Each is saved to the cloud.

Step 7. Testing in Demo Mode

Before using the chain in a ranked match, test it on the practice stand:

  1. In Dota 2 → Practice → Demo Hero.
  2. Select your hero and a neutral enemy.
  3. Press the trigger key — the chain plays through.
  4. In the cheat menu → the log will show which step fired and which was skipped due to a condition.
  5. Adjust timings if needed.

FAQ

Can I have multiple chains on one key?

No, one key = one chain. But you can use a modifier (Ctrl+M4 vs M4) — those are different combinations.

The chain doesn't fire in a match — why?

The most common causes: 1) not enough mana for one of the steps; 2) the activation condition is not met (e.g. the target is out of range); 3) the trigger key conflicts with a Dota bind. Check the log in the cheat menu.

Is the preset saved after reinstalling Umbrella?

Yes. All chains are stored in the cloud on Umbrella servers, linked to the account. Log in and the presets will load.

How do I import a ready preset from another player?

Combo Builder section → Cloud → Add By Code. Enter the code your friend shared — the preset is added to your catalogue. Ready codes are on the CFG page.
