What is Cataclysm
Cataclysm is the upgraded version of Sun Strike after purchasing Aghanim's Scepter. It launches two sun strikes in sequence at the same point. Each deals 600 pure damage — 1200+ total with buffs.
Available only on a Quas-Wex-Exort build with Aghanim. Cooldown: 90 seconds. Strike radius: 175. Visible to enemies as a ground telegraph 1.7 seconds before impact.
Manual cast — steps
To activate you need:
- Aghanim's Scepter in inventory (or Aghanim's Blessing).
- Sun Strike already invoked (i.e. invoked from EEE / Exort × 3).
- Enough mana (~250 for the ult cast).
Sequence:
- Hold E (Exort) and tap it three times quickly to get EEE.
- Press R to invoke Sun Strike — it will appear on the D or F slot (by default).
- Activate Sun Strike and click the target point on the map — two strikes will land 1.2 seconds apart.
The cost of a mistake is high: if you mix up the orbs, you lose 3 seconds re-building EEE — enough time for the target to escape.
Timing and leading
Sun Strike takes 1.7 seconds to reach its target. In that time a fleeing hero travels ~500 units. Where to click:
- Target is moving in a straight line — click 500 units ahead along the movement vector.
- Target is standing in a fight — click directly on the hero; they likely will not move.
- Target is escaping into the trees — click the corner of the path, catch them on the turn.
- Ally has vision on the target through fog — coordinate the cast via voice or pings.
The second Cataclysm strike lands 1.2 seconds after the first. If the target moves away after the first hit — the second lands on empty ground. That is why the upgrade is more valuable against low-mobility targets.
Umbrella auto-bind script
The main problem with manual casting is invoking the orbs within 0.5 seconds. At 200 ms reaction time this requires thousands of hours of practice. The Auto Cataclysm script does it for you:
- Press one key (Mouse5 by default).
- The script assembles the EEE orbs automatically without disrupting your current build.
- Sun Strike is cast at the cursor position with leading based on the target's movement speed.
- The angle is calculated in one frame — more accurate than any pro player.
Script advantages: 100% hit rate on stationary targets and ~85% on fleeing ones. Downsides: if detected — a flag on the account. Use with the spoofer to reduce risk.

Combo extensions
Pure Cataclysm rarely kills on its own. Add to the chain:
- Tornado → EMP → Meteor → Deafening Blast — 800 damage in a single point.
- Cold Snap before Cataclysm — prevents the target from walking out of the telegraph.
- Forge Spirit for follow-up damage between strikes.
- Hex (Scythe of Vyse) on initiation — guarantees the second strike hits.
All chains can be bound to a single key with the Combo Builder. Full hero guide — Invoker page.
FAQ
Can you use Cataclysm without Aghanim?
No. This is exclusively a scepter upgrade. Without Aghanim, the ult fires one Sun Strike, not two.
Does Aghanim's Blessing work the same as the Scepter?
Yes. The Aghanim's from the Roshan chest gives the same ult upgrade effect.
At which ranks is Cataclysm strongest?
Ancient and above. At lower ranks it is hard to predict where the target will be — Cataclysm often misses. With the Umbrella script's automation, win rate improves even in Herald-Crusader.
How much mana does the full QE combo with Cataclysm cost?
~700 mana. Bottle, Aether Lens, and Hand of Midas in the early game provide the pool. Octarine Core reduces cooldown and returns mana.
